BOOZE AND THE BADGE IN THE NEWS...

"Retired cop offers insights on the badge, booze and coping with COVID"
Feature Interview in London Free Press by Joe Belanger, February 8, 2021.
"Barry Ruhl knows something about trauma and alcohol.
That’s not because he’s a retired OPP sergeant, but because he’s an alcoholic who self-medicated with booze for decades trying to drown his own demons and is now telling his story in a new book, Booze and the Badge, edited by psychologist David Hoath...."

A VIABLE SUSPECT IN THE NEWS...

"Retired OPP Officer Writes of Alternative Suspect in Truscott Case" by Janice MacKay
"A retired OPP Sergeant has written a book about a suspect he feels should have been investigated in the murder of Lynne Harper in Clinton in 1959.
Southampton resident Barry Ruhl has written the book about a man, who he calls Larry Talbot, which is not the suspect’s real name. Steven Truscott was charged in Harper’s murder, but cleared 50 years later. The 14-year old Truscott was convicted in the 1959 murder of the 12-year-old girl. Ruhl uncovered strong circumstantial evidence linking his suspect to that case, and a number of other murders. "‘Viable Suspect’ Explored In Murder That Saw Steven Truscott Wrongfully Convicted" by Rob O'Flanagan
"A retired OPP officer believes there is a credible suspect in the 1959 murder of Lynne Harper, a crime Steven Truscott was convicted for, and later acquitted of.
As an OPP sergeant, Barry Ruhl had his investigative radar trained on a man he refers to as Larry Talbot in his new book 'A Viable Suspect.' Talbot is dead now, but in the book, Ruhl offers compelling evidence that suggests Talbot (a pseudonym) should have been a suspect in the 1959 murder of Lynne Harper...(continued)"

"Retired OPP Officer Revisits Cold Case Murders" by Frances Learment
" 'It is never too late' to investigate cold case murders of young women in Southern Ontario. That belief led retired OPP Sgt. Barry Ruhl of Southampton to write "A Viable Suspect", a true crime book about multiple murder cases - including the sensational acquittal of Steven Truscott, 55 years after his rush-to-judgment conviction in the muder of school girl Lynne Harper in Clinton. Ruhl fervently believes that a now dead criminal he calls Larry Talbot should have been investigated for the Harper murder, and numerous other unsolved stranger-kill homicides...(continued)"
